Center of Obesity Support

WHAT IS OBESITY?
Clinically obesity is described as the excessive accumulation
of fat that exceeds the body's skeletal and physical standards. The National Institute of Health (NIH) states that excessive weight becomes a health hazard when it is 20 percent or more above ideal body weight.

Is it Serious?
"Comorbid conditions increase the risk of disability or premature mortality. An increased risk for all cause mortality has been shown for BMI>27. Obese individuals who lose even small amounts of weight (5% to lO%) are likely to improve their health in the short run by reducing the severity of co morbidities associated with obesity like cardiovascular disease i.e. heart failures and coronary heart disease, hypertension, type 2 Diabetes mellitus, hyper- cholesterolemia, Infertility, Sleep Apnoea, Osteoarthritis and more to add. According o the National Institutes of Health Consensus report, obesity is serious health hazard and must be treated as such."

Why support?
Morbid obesity may kill but living with it is no easy task either It is indeed unfortunate that most people do not realize that obesity, especially morbid obesity, is a chronic medical problem and requires medical intervention. It is this lack of knowledge and understanding that prompted Dr: Gurdip Singh Sidhu, a renowned Bariatric Surgeon (Anti Obesity Surgery) to launch Centre for Obesity Support (COS).
